Humanitarian Relief Missions

2006
In collaboration with our key partners, AmeriCares and the Mennonite Central Committee (MCC), Help the Afghan Children continued to provide humanitarian aid to hospitals, clinics, and refugee camps, benefited an estimated 50,000 Afghanistan children and their families.

Critical medicines, medical supplies, and equipment were distributed to hospitals and medical centers in the greater Kabul area as well as to clinics in underserved provinces through our partner, Afghan Health & Development Services (AHDS).

To address the basic educational needs of Afghan refugee children (arriving from Pakistan and living in refugee camps with their families), HTAC provided school kits to thousands of Afghanistan students who were attending school by day, but lacked even the most essential items (i.e. notebooks, pencils, rulers, crayons, and erasers) since their families were too poor to buy them. These kits were received enthusiastically and cherished by the children.

Humanitarian & Emergency Aid

Humanitarianism is at the core of everything Help The Afghan Children (HTAC) does in Afghanistan.  Although long-term sustainable development is an on-going goal, the immediate need created from decades of war and the precarious natural environment means that humanitarian assistance and emergency relief are still important priorities.  HTAC has long fare still important priorities.  HTAC has long sought to serve the most vulnerable Afghanistan populations and assist them in alleviating their often desperate conditions.  Particularly underserved sectors of society HTAC focuses on are the Internally Displaced Peoples (IDPs) and Repatriated Refugees (RRs) who live around Kabul and throughout Afghanistan in tents, makeshift shelters, and bombed-out buildings.

Through a continuing relationship with AmeriCares and the Mennonite Central Committee (MCC), HTAC provides humanitarian relief in two distinct ways.  The first is through an on-going humanitarian assistance program providing primarily medicinal aid, blankets, shoes & apparel, and educational supplies to Afghanistan women, men, and children in Afghanistan who have been Afghanistan refugees since the Afghan War.  The other is through an emergency response program where HTAC addresses critical situations as they arise, such as winter storms and flooding.  With such a destroyed infrastructure, these natural disasters have a particularly devastating effect on people who already must struggle daily for there own subsistence.  Through pre-positioning itself with a variety of items from bukharies (heaters/cooking stoves) to blankets HTAC meets these disasters with the most efficient and effective response possible, providing relief to thousands of affected Afghanistan people and Afghanistan refugees yearly..
