Community School Committees

At the heart of any development activity is the community of beneficiaries where programs and projects are initiated.  Help The Afghan Children (HTAC) takes pride in the support it receives from the communities where it has built schools and implemented its innovative educational programs.  This support is the result of HTAC's concerted efforts to consider and involve the community at every stage of the development process - from conceptualization through to implementation.  Community School Committees
This community-based approach is essential in order for the projects and programs HTAC supports to be not only for the people, but also of the people.
It is with this in mind that HTAC develops a Community School Shura (CSS) once HTAC-sponsored educational interventions are made.  CSSs are created in order to establish a system whereby diverse members of the local community, including local elders, community leaders, and parents of students, are able to more actively engage in an on-going collaboration with HTAC.  The CSSs not only provide HTAC with input in the form of ideas, opinions, questions, observations, and suggestions regarding the project, but help build a true sense of community responsibility and ownership for the project.  Through this process of grassroots community involvement and participation, we hope to help empower these communities to plan, develop, and monitor the community's ongoing reconstruction needs.  Being empowered in a way that fosters ownership, responsibility, and initiative in the community's own reconstruction will only further its commitment to ensuring that quality, sustainable education is available to the community's children for generations to come.
